Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Turtles in a half shell! Turtle Power! Alright, I’m done. Article over.

Just kidding.

Unless you’ve been living in a sewer, chances are you’ve heard that the Turtles are going to hit theaters this Friday, August 8, 2014! (Unless you are reading this article after the movie has already come out)

If you’re like me, this is pretty exciting news. I’ve loved Ninja Turtles since childhood, and I’m thrilled to see what this new movie has in store for us. Not nearly as thrilled as I am, however, for this epic life lessons that the Turtles can relate to.

Nothing Without Turtle Ooze

Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael have had an interesting life. Although they started as ordinary little turtles, they were gifted with an extraordinary opportunity.

When these four baby turtles came across a batch of Turtle Ooze, a transformation began to take place. Slowly the four brothers began to change into incredibly strong mutants.

As the turtles continued to grow, they lived under the guidance of their teacher, Splinter. After TONS of training, the turtles began to find their crime fighting purpose. These heroes in a half shell were now ready to go out and make a difference in the world.

This silly story about ooze, turtles, and ninja skills is closer to reality than you might realize.

Each of us is like a baby turtle. By ourselves we can do nothing. In fact, on our own we are sinful by nature. What do I mean by that?

Chances are, each of us have:

  • Lied
  • Stolen
  • Lusted
  • or Misused God’s Name

That makes us guilty. No matter what we believe, or how we try to justify the things that we do, we are guilty. The punishment for sin is death. That’s some pretty grim news for those who are guilty. But there’s good news.

Much like the turtles, we have an awesome opportunity to be transformed, disciplined, and find purpose.

John 3:16-21 (ESV)

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

God sent His Son as a blameless sacrifice so that our sins could be covered. Because of this, we have the awesome opportunity to have a relationship with the one true God.

I know firsthand that a relationship with God can cause transformation in lives. I have seen people healed from things like drug addiction and pornography. God transformed my life. I used to have:

  • Weight Problems
  • Anger Problems
  • Lust Problems
  • Theft Problems
  • Language Problems

Those are just a few of the issues I faced. Over the years, however, God has worked in me. He has healed me, and although I am no where near perfect, His grace has covered and protected me.

I want to see more people healed.

God can take a tiny and weak person, and fill them with His strength. The best part is, when you have a relationship with God, you continue to grow. You begin to love those around you more, and you begin to find purpose in this life.

As we approach this weekend, many of you will probably go out and see Ninja Turtles. I hope that you enjoy the movie! At the same time, remember the importance of the real transformation that God can do in your life. Seek to make Him first in your life.

This is our mission:

Matthew 22:36-40 (ESV)

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

If you have any questions about ANY of this, feel free to:

I love you guys! Praying for you! Now, where can I get some pizza?
