It’s Not Enough – Motivational Music Monday’s

What’s up everyone? A while back my good friend (and brother in Christ) Craig Cooper approached me with a new idea for Gamerfaith. Both of us love Christian metal music, so he suggested starting #MotivationalMetalMondays. Eventually this idea changed into #MotivationalMusicMondays because we didn’t want other genres of music (that had a good message) to be excluded! Many of these songs will (hopefully) inspire you as well as help you to discover some new musical artists with a good message.

Today’s song “It’s Not Enough” by Dustin Krensue may not seem very “motivational” initially, but the message of this song is thought provoking.

Upon hearing this song I was reminded of Ecclesiastes. I almost immediately dropped what I was doing, and went and read the entire book.

Ecclesiastes can be a hard book to read, but it reminded me of a very important lesson. There is nothing “under the sun” that can leave us satisfied.

Ecclesiastes 6:7 (ESV)

7 All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied.

So, what is enough? What can satisfy? God can satisfy, and His kingdom can give us purpose. This life (on earth) is only temporary, and it is important that we spend it in a purposeful way.

Matthew 6:19-34 (ESV)

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Hey thanks for sharing this man, I have been having a hard time lately remembering to “not be anxious about tomorrow…” or for that matter even today. I can’t control the things in my life, we try so hard to organize our lives in the way we want, but we have no control over it. We may be able to sit down and schedule our days but we can’t control how much traffic there is on the way to where we are going, we can’t control the weather or what the temperature is, we like to think we have it all under control but only God has the entire thing firmly grasped, and he is the one we need to trust because he has our best interests in mind. And I think this song provokes not only the thought that we can’t fill the God shaped hole in our hearts, but it also reminds me that no matter what I do, it’s not enough to get into heaven, it’s not enough to be righteous, it is only by God’s grace through Jesus. Jesus was enough and that has to be enough for me too.
