Futuristic Faith: SciFi That Strengthens Our Relationship With God

Spock and Kirk

Have you ever dreamed of blasting through space at warp speed, exploring uncharted planets, and using awesome futuristic technology? I know I have! After searching the blog for a little while you’ll realize we’re all a bunch of pilgrims and superheroes at Gamerfaith, but you may not have known that we aren’t too far off from Kirk and his crew mates aboard the Enterprise. We have the technology, the crew, and the mission. The question is whether or not we will utilize it.

Activating Hologram

A big thanks to Dr. Chuck Missler for teaching me this one. If you think about the characteristics of a hologram, what do you visualize?

  • A floating blue image?
  • A projection of light?
  • Carrie Fisher pleading for Obi’s help?

A hologram is a light-projected three dimensional image. The image isn’t clear without the projected light, but when that light is shining we are able to see a detailed image. Looking at the image from different places allows you to see different pieces of the same overlying image.

Similarly we have the Bible. When we look at the Bible through the light that God shines on it, we get a detailed image. Different places in the Bible give us different pieces of the same image. The Bible is integrated beautifully. The Old Testament and The New  Testament work together. They piece together an image of Jesus Christ, love, redemption, and a lot of other awesome things!

“The New Testament is concealed in the Old, and the Old is revealed in the New”

-Augustine

Beam Me Up

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV)

Rejoice evermore.

Pray without ceasing.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Prayer is something that should be taken seriously. Members of the Starship Enterprise keep their communicators linked to the ship while they are exploring new planets. If they need help or information they just ask, and in the worst case scenario they may need to beam out entirely.

In this life we will do a lot of exploring, and it will bring up a lot of questions. By connecting with other Christians (our God given crew mates) we can learn a lot. We can also connect straight to God through prayer. I highly recommend taking some time to recognize all that God does for you, and spend quality time in prayer every single day. It can be tempting to do nothing but ask God for the things you need, and then move on with your day. Be sure to humble yourself. Recognize who you are in comparison to our incredible God! Thank Him for all that He does for you. Check out Matthew 6:5-13 for a great lesson about prayer.

If you find yourself in a dangerous situation during your explorations, immediately seek God. God can help you through difficult circumstances! Don’t downplay the power of prayer. If you find you are being tempted, beam out before it’s too late!

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (NLT)

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Set Phasers To Stun!

Have you ever been telling someone about God, and had them respond with an argument that seemed impossible to combat? An overwhelming amount of people respond to this type of situation with a rebuttal along the lines of “I believe this, because God or the Bible says so!”

I can’t argue with the logic of obeying God’s word, because He is our our loving and amazing God. Unbelievers, however, don’t understand that same logic. Christian’s have their eyes open, but unbelievers don’t have the same viewpoint. You can believe God’s words because He is God, but don’t be lazy about it. There are TONS of logical reasons to believe in GOD! Don’t be fooled into thinking that science and Christianity oppose one other, because they do not. Always strive to learn more! Learn about the Old Testament Prophesies. If you want to equip yourself with a book that will strengthen your faith and help you to answer some “impossible” seeming questions, I highly recommend Hidden Treasures In he Biblical Text by: Chuck Missler.

I am not saying to go get into an argument with an unbeliever. It is very hard to sway someone, and you will need God’s support. Remember that you should be trying to show people Christ out of love.  Charging in at full force, and carelessly attacking somebody else’s lifestyle can be dangerous. Imagine if someone approached you and began to tell you all the things you were doing wrong. Be a good example of Christ’s love, examine yourself first (Read Matthew 7:1-5 for more about that), show that your strength comes from God, and when somebody attempts to attack you… be ready to respond to tough questions with logic that supports your faith! Unbelievers will likely not expect an answer, and will often be stunned that you have one ready.

Vulcan Logic

Always be ready with your Vulcan Christian logic. I frequently hear people fighting against God with arguments that “sound pretty” but are completely illogical.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Don’t you just believe in what you do because it is popular in the culture that you live in?
  • I tried God, but I was never happy, so I quit.
  • If God is good, wouldn’t He accept everyone no matter what way they choose to live their lives?

It’s no secret that Christianity is popular in our culture, and it’s popular for good reasons. We aren’t the only culture in the world that accepts it. Like stated above, find good reasons to believe what you do. Don’t let people who don’t understand Christianity make you question it.

Matthew 13: 19 (NKJV)

“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand [it], then the wicked [one] comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.

The purpose of seeking God isn’t to find happiness for ourselves. That’s not to say that happiness isn’t a consequence of truly loving God. Happiness comes with the territory, but so do trials. We need to work on our faith until it is strong enough to endure. If your only motivation to seek God is so that you can be happier, you should reevaluate.

Matthew 13: 20-21 (NKJV)

“But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;

“yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

God is good! He is brilliant enough to make a way for us to be forgiven for our sins. We have all struggled, but through Jesus we have a way to be redeemed. A good parent doesn’t allow his children to do whatever they want with no consequences. A truly great parent teaches, helps, and leads his children along the right path.

Matthew 13: 22-23 (NKJV)

“Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands [it], who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

As explorer’s we are always uncovering uncharted grounds in our lives. Be sure to know how to utilize as many God given tools and abilities as you can, and “boldly go where no man has gone before”.

Praying for you guys!

Kirk Caleb out.
